Summary Criminal

The Criminal Code of Canada states that a defendant may be represented by a lawyer or an agent if the charge will be dealt with as a Summary matter. In many instances you may be entitled to Legal Aid and/or representation by a lawyer. However, if you do not qualify for Legal Aid or don't want to personally incur the expense of a lawyer you have the right to be represented by a Court Agent.

If the crown has the option of proceeding on the charge as a summary offence or by way of indictment, then it will be necessary for you to make the initial appearance in court for election and plea prior to retaining this firm as your agent. Our services usually cost less than a regular lawyer, but we can only act on matters where it is specifically allowed in the Criminal Code.

As your Court Agent I am allowed to call witnesses and cross examine any witnesses of the crown. I will prepare the best possible defence against the charges you are facing.
